Applicants must be at least 19 years old, have English language fluency, a willingness to support and live with others and an interest in community life. Because we support a vulnerable community, the State of California requires all applicants to undergo a background check and/or obtain a police report.
Volunteers live and participate in community life at Camphill California for a period of at least one year. They are responsible for a variety of support tasks – participation in our community workshops, organization of cultural activities, and supporting household activities including cooking and cleaning. A typical day consists of a community gathering in the morning, 3 common meals, morning workshops, afternoon cultural and social activities and responsibilities to the home throughout the day and in the evening.
Volunteer benefits consists of a private room, board and health insurance. Volunteers can request reimbursements for their personal expenses during the gap year. U.S. volunteers with college debt can apply for a College Loan Support Program while serving as volunteers in Camphill California. Our view is that college debt obligations shouldn’t keep someone from enjoying the life-changing benefits of a volunteer gap year.
